This was announced by U.S. Ambassador to Russia John huntsman during a working visit to Yekaterinburg. According to him, there is the possibility of the resumption of visa interviews in the regions in the near future.

He recalled that after the relevant provisions of Russia American Embassy «has been forced to cut staff by 60%, which had a significant effect on the ability of the issuance of visas». In this regard, huntsman said that recently visited the newly constructed building of the American Consulate in Moscow.
«There are 24 Windows for interviews for visas, that’s fine, but, unfortunately, employees barely enough for 12 Windows. But we try to do everything possible, and I hope that in the next few weeks we will be better able to issue visas in Moscow and in our three consulates», — said the head of the diplomatic mission.
According to the decision of the Russian government, staff of all diplomatic missions of the USA in Russia for September 1 has been reduced from 1200 to 455. The procedure for issuing new visas have been suspended since August 23 and resumed on 1 September in Moscow, all previous appointment was cancelled.
