The relics of St. Nicholas for the first time in 930 years brought to Russia from Italy

In may to Russia from Italy will bring a particle of the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. This happens for the first time in 930 years. Earlier relics of this Saint never left the papal Basilica of Bari. First, the remains of the Saint will be in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, and in July they will move to St. Petersburg.

For the first time in 930 years to Russia from Italy will bring a particle of the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. About it reports TASS. Earlier relics of this Saint never left the papal Basilica of Bari.

«From 21 may to 28 July will be the introduction part of the relics of St. Nicholas from Italy for the first time in 930 years. Agreement was reached on 12 February 2016 at the meeting with Pope Francis,» said the Chairman of the Department for external Church relations Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev).

According to him, specifically for this event, the relics will be extracted from underground and brought to Moscow. The Metropolitan noted that the first remains of the Saint will be in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, and in July they will move to St. Petersburg.
