The international court of justice in the Hague refused to Ukraine in establishing interim measures against Russia before the end of the lawsuit about the violation of the Convention for the suppression of the financing of terrorism. At the same time, the court partially satisfied the requirement for the measures in connection with infringement of the rights of the Crimean Tatars.
The international court of justice rejected the request of Ukraine on the introduction of provisional measures against Russia on the claim for violation of the Convention for the suppression of the financing of terrorism and the elimination of racial discrimination. This was reported by TASS with reference to the Chairman of the Hague court Ronnie Abraham.
According to him, in the framework of the Convention on the elimination of racial discrimination, the court held that Russia should refrain from infringing on the rights of the Crimean Tatars and to ensure access to education in the Ukrainian language in Crimea. Abraham stressed that the measures should be defined in relation to the Russian side, will not be identical to those requested by Ukraine. Under the Convention on combating the financing of terrorism, the court said there is no need to establish interim measures.
«Thus, the court concluded that the conditions necessary to define additional measures in respect of the rights under the Convention for the suppression of the financing of terrorism do not meet the requirements,» he said.
In mid-January, Kiev has filed a lawsuit against Moscow in the international court of justice in the Hague. Ukrainian authorities have accused Russia of violating the UN Convention on countering the financing of terrorism and the Convention on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination. The action relates to the inclusion of Crimea in structure of Russia. Kiev accused Moscow of discrimination on the Peninsula, and the supply of weapons to the South-East of Ukraine.
The Russian foreign Ministry said that Ukraine uses international court of justice as a platform for scoring political charges.
