Candidate for the French presidency from the center-right party the Republicans, former Prime Minister Francois Fillon said that Russia will never leave Crimea. He also called the historical Peninsula as Russian territory. In an interview with Le Figaro, a French politician said that talking about the withdrawal of Russia from Crimea «is useless, this will never happen.»
Fillon noted that when considering the Crimean issue should take into account two fundamental and contradictory principles: respect of borders and the right of peoples to self-determination.
Crimea is Russian historical and cultural as well as linguistic points of view, no one can deny, said the former Prime Minister. Through a special international conference under the auspices of the UN, according to the Fillon, it is possible to resolve the situation with the Crimea.
Recall that in 2014, the Peninsula held a referendum in which the local population is an absolute majority voted for the return of Crimea in structure of Russia. The vote was held in compliance with all international rights. However, Ukraine and some Western countries refuse to recognize its results. Kiev regularly submits claims to the court of justice against Russia, stating that she occupied the Crimea, but none of them was satisfied.
