Sobyanin: Moscow is becoming more comfortable for people with disabilities

Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin attended the event in concert hall «Russia», dedicated to the International day of persons with disabilities, which presented awards to the winners of the city contest «City for everyone» and letters of appreciation. In addition, Sobyanin congratulated Moscow schoolchildren, students and young professionals – the winners of the «Abilympics».

Moscow is becoming more comfortable for people with disabilities, about 85% of social facilities in the city are adapted for people with limited mobility. This was announced by the mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin in the course of the event in GTSKZ «Russia» devoted to the International Day of persons with disabilities.

«Today, for the needs of disabled people fit for 85% of all socially significant objects. Their share has grown in recent years in half» — quoted Sobyanin AGN «Moscow».

He added that the Moscow transport has also become more accessible to people with disabilities. «Almost completely switched to low-floor buses. Two-thirds of low-floor trolleybuses also. However, a lot of work ahead to replace the trams,» — said Sobyanin. He promised that within a few years the fleet of trams in the city will also be replaced.

The mayor also noted the success of young Muscovites with disabilities in the championship of professional skills «Abilympics-2017». In the team competition the first place took the team of Moscow: the 46 gold medals, 34 silver and 37 bronze medals.

III national championship «Abilympics» was held at ENEA December 1-3. «Abilympics» is an international non-profit movement aimed at raising the prestige of working professions, the development of vocational education and career guidance, socialization and employment of young people with disabilities. Russia joined the «Abilympics» in 2014.

In addition, Sobyanin during the event in concert hall «Russia» has awarded the winners of the city contest «City for everyone» and letters of thanks of the Mayor of Moscow.

The city contest «City for everyone» has been held in Moscow since 2009. The organizers – the Department of labour and social protection of population of Moscow, the prefectures of administrative districts of Moscow.

The main aim of the competition – attraction of enterprises, institutions, organizations (regardless of ownership) and the whole urban community to participate in the formation of a barrier-free environment – infrastructure adapted for the disabled and other people with limited mobility.

In 2017 in the city the competition was attended by 130 organizations. Winners of 11 of the fittest for people with limited mobility urban sites. In particular, this polyclinic №180 and the garden «Hermitage».

Letters of thanks of the Mayor of Moscow was awarded eight people, including Krupennikov Vladimir Aleksandrovich – Deputy of the State Duma, the leading social weekly program «life Factor» on TV channel «TV Center».
