Shocking scientists: a huge glacier in Greenland can be split in half

NASA scientists made a disappointing statement, which can seriously affect the climate. It turned out that the largest Petermann glacier, which is located on the island of Greenland, gave a big crack.

On the official page in Facebook of the National office published the photo, where clearly visible crack, which runs down the centre of the glacier. The size of the ice massif is 70 to 50 kilometers. Still unknown the causes that provoked the appearance of a split. According to preliminary data, there was a crack due to thinning of the shelf.

Scientists have suggested that this may be the beginning of the formation of a new island, but then it turned out that the part that will break away from the glacier, most likely, will go to free swimming.

Later considered another crack and if these two split connect, the Northern and the Arctic ocean will float a huge iceberg.
