Putin discussed with Abbas a settlement in the middle East

Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Mahmoud Abbas. During the dialogue, the presidents of Russia and Palestine discussed the middle East settlement, and also noted the importance of the signed in October the agreement aimed to strengthen intra-Palestinian unity.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday had a telephone conversation with his counterpart from Palestine Mahmoud Abbas. About it reports a press-service of the Kremlin.

«When discussing issues of middle East settlement, Putin outlined Russia’s position of principle in support of the immediate resumption of direct Palestinian-Israeli talks on all contentious issues, including the status of Jerusalem, and entry to long-term equitable solutions that meet the interests of both parties», — stated in the message.

During the dialogue, Putin and Abbas also stressed the importance of signed in October the agreement between the movements of Fatah and Hamas, aimed at fostering intra-Palestinian unity.

In addition, the parties discussed topical issues of cooperation between Russia and Palestine, and agreed to continue personal contacts.
