Polar day «Severodvinsk»: a missile strike in two sea

Multipurpose nuclear submarine of the Northern fleet Severodvinsk today successfully completed shooting a cruise missile «Calibre» from a submerged position.

On one of the ranges of combat training of the Northern fleet in the Barents sea launched missiles on range Chizha in the Arkhangelsk region, at a distance of about 600 kilometers. The firing is executed with a given accuracy and confirmation of all flight and technical parameters. The crew of the nuclear submarine «Severodvinsk» showed high professionalism.

Working out of such problems is the embodiment in practice of principles of the state policy of the Russian Federation in the field of naval activities for the period until 2030, approved in July by the decree of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.

Now Russia is determined equally to resist the expansive (aggressive) intentions of the West on land and sea. The instrument interprets the desire of States to control international waters as a threat to Russia’s national security.

Despite the numerical superiority the U.S. Navy, Moscow urges Washington to a naval parity (equality) and every rocket launch confirms a strong necessity to reckon with its interests.

Russia is ready to increase its military presence in the oceans and the share of imports of naval weapons. The rocket complex «Caliber» is in all respects a wonderful choice, do not violate the INF Treaty.

Multipurpose nuclear submarine fourth generation «Severodvinsk» and rocket complex «Caliber» sea basing is a high technology, the possession of which does honor to any developed country in the world and greatly strengthens state sovereignty.

Combat use

Cruise missiles «Severodvinsk» was held to target the most difficult route over the Barents and the White seas. And, according to the map, over the mountains of the Kola Peninsula (aerobatics Autonomous navigation system).

The range of cruise missiles «Calibre» — high-precision weapons ship, shore and airborne, designed to engage in simple and adverse weather conditions, day and night, stationary ground and sea targets — control centers, arms depots and fuel, airfield, port facilities. The characteristics of the export version of the «Calibre» open. Warheads of various types are used in the schemes: «water — land», «air — ground», «earth — earth».

From the first day of the massive use in the distance of thousands of kilometers of cruise missiles of sea basing «Caliber» crossed through difficult routes with several countries and accurately hit targets while remaining invisible to air defense systems and reconnaissance NATO. And the spokesman quickly said the United States did not want Russia moved on Iraq the model.

Of course, Americans are not scared of the loss of monopoly status high-tech «exclusivity». Painful reaction of the state Department caused primarily combat capabilities of «Caliber» in the strategy of «distributed lethal strike» providing for the dispersal of weapons systems guidance and control (i.e., high survivability). According to the concept of Multi-Domain Battle on the conduct of hostilities in different areas, the U.S. army today unable to contain or defeat modern and equal to the power of the enemy (so say in the Pentagon).

Largely due to the «Caliber» sea-based potential enemy of Russia is vulnerable in any environment combat use. The complex includes modifications to anti-ship missiles 3M-54/3M-54-1 and cruise missiles, long-range 3M-14 (warhead weight — respectively 200 and 400 kg) with a maximum flight speed of up to 700 m/s at a distance of over 2000 kilometers. Surface ships, submarines and aircraft may be in international waters and international airspace that increases the radius of combat use.

The features of navigation

The basic idea of cruise missiles (KR) — run outside the reach of enemy air defenses (to catch him by surprise, not to subject the carrier of the danger of retaliation). The main technical problem is the ability of the CD to fly thousands of kilometers to the route and from any direction to accurately hit the target.

At the dawn of the era of cruise missiles in the mid-twentieth century, the autopilot on the basis of the gyro withstand course, an anemometer distance to the target (with an accuracy of about a mile). In the future, to compensate for the inertial errors began to use digital navigation (loaded in memory by the terrain) and celestial navigation. Today everything is much more complicated, because the indirect route of the CD is usually over a unique terrain, and over a relatively flat water surface, where the navigation system is not for that «catch».

Integration into American CU GPS receivers (1980-ies) allowed to constantly correct the inertial errors of the flight, regardless of terrain and weather conditions, over water and over land. However, the benefits of GPS virtually wiped out the weak noise immunity of the receivers. Contemporary American CU for navigation use the batch system, including GPS and inertial (ring laser gyroscopes), and «smart antennas».

Controlled Reception Pattern Antenna narrow «sees» only the satellite «blind» in other directions and not react to electromagnetic interference.

In the final segment of the flight American CU also used thermal imaging cameras for automatic recognition of images of stationary and moving targets. Further development of navigation of cruise missiles is aimed to expand the range of sensors that increase the autonomy and reliability of systems.

Russian cruise missile 3M-14E complex «Caliber» uses the latest navigation systems and algorithms. CU is equipped with a combined, Autonomous guidance system. Management is built on the basis of the inertial navigation system, consisting of a radar altimeter and receiver of signals of satellite navigation (GLONASS or GPS). Altimeter provides flight mode diffraction topography through precise altitude above the sea — not more than 20 meters, over land — from 50 to 150 meters (at the approach to the goal — reduction of up to 20 meters). Correction of the trajectory midcourse performed according to satellite navigation subsystem and subsystem correction terrain.

Navigation is performed along a complex path, the missile has the ability to bypass area air defense/missile defense or a complex topography due to the change of course (e.g. task can have up to 15 sample points). In the final section of the route separated the third fighting stage, which overcomes enemy air defenses at supersonic speed. Active seeker captures the goal.
