Oil and gas dispute between Russia and Belarus continues to deteriorate

At the talks in Minsk on Monday, the Russian delegation has failed to persuade the Belarusian colleagues to refuse from increase of tariffs for pumping of Russian oil to Europe. As reports TASS with reference to the official representative of Transneft Igor Demin, in 2017 the cost of transporting Russian oil through the pipeline «Friendship» through Polotsk will increase by 11.76%.

To agree the fare for the second leg of the pipeline — via Gomel — failed. Transneft had agreed to a 5.8 percent increase, the Belarusian authorities initially demanded to 20.5%.

Now, according to signed between the two countries the methodology, further talks will deal with the Russian FAS,» — said Demin.

We will remind, the decision to raise tariffs for oil transit in Minsk took on the background of the escalating conflict on gas prices.

Belarus demanded to decrease from 132 to 78 USD per thousand cubic meters, referring to the fact that in the conditions of the Union state, Russian companies get the cost advantages. Moreover, according to «Gazprom» from January to September, the Belarusian consumers are underpaid for the supply of 340 million dollars.

In response, Russia sharply reduced oil supplies to Belarusian refineries in the third quarter, they fell from 5.3 to 3.5 million tons, and the fourth was planned to decrease to 3 million tons.

On Friday, December 23, Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich said that the gas dispute with Belarus may have to settle in court.
