Media: Cybercrime in Russia will be punished especially harshly

The Russian government intends to toughen punishment for crimes in the virtual space. About this informed the newspaper «Izvestia», citing a source in the Main Directorate of security and information protection of the Bank of Russia.

Most likely the new bill will equate to cyber theft. Under current law, a hacker can steal a large amount from the virtual account, but will get probation. Currently, the maximum sentence for cybercrime involves five years of imprisonment and a large fine, up to one million rubles.
