Moscow considers totally unfounded attempts of the European Commission to receive a mandate for talks on gas pipeline project «Nord stream-2», the introduction of new EU law in relation to this project would amount to discrimination for political reasons, said the Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
«Disturbing is the attempt by selfish force in the EU to undermine the energy dialogue between Russia and the European Union… attempts to discredit the collaborative projects such as «Nord stream-2″, although its implementation is designed to significantly reduce transit risks, to strengthen the energy security of the European Union,» Lavrov said at a briefing for the Association of European businesses (AEB).
«Puzzling idea of some members of the European Commission to impose decisions on the need to obtain a negotiating mandate to conclude with Russia agreements for the «Nord stream-2″. It is absolutely groundless,» — said Lavrov.
According to him, Moscow «I believe that the introduction of new legal regulations exclusively for the «Nord stream-2″ means discrimination of the investors of this project is also only for political and no other reasons.»
