Lavrov discussed with Ayrault incident involving the use of chemical weapons in Syria

The foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov and foreign Minister of France Jean-Marc Ayrault held on Wednesday a telephone conversation. During the dialogue they discussed the situation in Syria. According to Sergei Lavrov, Russia insists on a truly independent investigation of the incident with chemical weapons in Khan Sheyhun.

Lavrov said that Russia considers the incident with the use of chemical weapons in the Syrian town of Khan shaykhun as a blatant provocation aimed at undermining the cessation of hostilities and the political process in the Arab country.

The head of the Russian Ministry also stressed that following these events, the aggressive actions of the United States, which launched a missile attack on Syria, a cause of great concern. According to Lavrov, the Russian side has always advocated respect for international law and insists on a truly independent investigation of the incident in Khan Sheyhun.
