Monday, 25 July, Polish media reported the death of a diplomat Jerzy Bar, which made a great contribution to the development of Russian-Polish relations. According to sources, a Bar has died on 72 year of life after a long struggle with a serious illness.
Jerzy Bar was born on April 24, 1944, in Krakow. In 1974 began a career politician in the Polish foreign Ministry. A few years later he was appointed first Secretary of the Polish Embassy in Bucharest. After the Declaration of martial law left the Ministry of foreign Affairs. In 1989 he returned to Poland, two years later again entered the diplomatic service. He was the counselor of Embassy in Moscow, Consul General in Kaliningrad, the Polish Ambassador in Kiev and Vilnius.
In the Russian capital Bar held the position for five years (2006 to 2010). 10 April 2010 at Smolensk airport he’s like the Ambassador of Poland in Russia was supposed to greet President Lech Kaczynski and the delegation, which flew to the mourning event dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre.
However, there was a plane crash that claimed the lives of 96 people.The presidential airliner of the Polish air force crashed near Smolensk. Onboard were Polish President with his wife and almost all the higher military command of the country.
In 2010, the head of Russian diplomacy Sergei Lavrov gave the Bar the breastplate of the Russian foreign Ministry for his contribution to international cooperation.
