Black gold in Black sea: US oil companies are asked to lift sanctions against Russia

The American oil company appealed to the Ministry of the Treasury with a request to make an exception for her and allow to cooperate with PJSC «Rosneft», despite the introduction of sanctions against Russia. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

After the United States government has imposed on Rosneft sanctions for the annexation of Crimea to Russia, joint projects with Exxon, Russian oil giant froze.

In connection with the sanctions restrictions, American companies are prohibited to transfer Rosneft’s modern technology. Currently, Exxon is asking the U.S. Treasury to allow her joint drilling with the Russian company in several areas, particularly in Siberia, the Arctic region and on the black sea shelf.

According to representatives of Exxon Mobil, if the company has not made exceptions, it will lose the rights to explore fields in the Black sea, as will appear in unequal conditions with their competitors. The American oil company has estimated the potential financial loss of one billion dollars.

In January 2011, Exxon signed with «Rosneft» the contract on joint development of hydrocarbon reserves on the black sea shelf. In addition, in September 2014, the Russian and the American company has opened a new field on the land East Prinovozemelsky-1.

Earlier, the head of «Rosneft» Igor Sechin reported that the company plans this year to start drilling in the Black sea, in 20118 year in the Barents, and in 2019 – in the Kara sea.
