Russian canoeist Andrey Kraitor allowed to participate in the 2016 Olympics, still will miss Games in Rio de Janeiro. As reported TASS, he did not participate in the test races with Ivan Shtyl. They were qualifying to participate in starting on Friday the Olympic games.
Additional races organized the all-Russia Federation of rowing on kayaks and a canoe (UFGBK). This step was necessary due to the fact that three of the license quota in the category Canoeing-men expect four athletes. As a result, the Presidium of the Federation, decided to adopt additional criteria for participation in the summer Olympics.
The head coach of Russian national team Alexander Zhdanov noted that Andrew Kraytor not come out at the start. This means that it automatically takes Shtyl. The specialist also added that on August 3, under the additional in-depth medical examination tests have passed the whole team, but Traitor refused to do it.
Later it turned out that Traitor intends to apply to the court of arbitration for Sport (CAS) against UFGBK, as reported by his lawyer Mikhail Prokopets. «He has such a right, if there is a violation of the selection criteria. The start of the race from canoeists on the 17th. The composition was approved on 20 July, the Executive Board of the Olympic Committee of Russia, and that now makes the Federation illegal,» he said.
Himself Traitor in an interview with «Sport-Express» has explained, why has decided to skip the launch, which was held on 4 August in Moscow on the rowing channel «Krylatskoe». According to him, this way he protested against the additional qualifying races. He added that he previously already earned the right to participate in the Olympic games. «I fundamentally will not work on this control. Why stoop when there are rules? And if tomorrow I tell the boat to run from the hotel to the canal?», — said the athlete.
Earlier Thursday, the independent Commission of the IOC allowed canoista Andrew Critera to participate in the Olympics in 2016. The day before the similar decision was accepted by the international Federation of rowing on kayaks and a canoe.
